“Probably, but I come in here and look at it about three times a day.” He laughed.

“Then you should definitely put it in a case before you ruin it!” Chloe said handing it back to him. “Dare I ask how much it cost?” She asked.

“I can only tell you if you swear not to tell Linda.” He leaned in whispering conspiratorially. “$40,000.” He said.

“Are you serious?!” Chloe said in disbelief. Doug nodded.

“I know, but I had to have it.” He said. Chloe nodded in agreement.

“It is an incredible piece for your collection.” She said. “Got any other gems I here that I haven’t seen yet?” She asked with a grin. Doug shook his head.

“Not yet, but I have my eye on a few more first editions.” He said. Chloe looked at him.

  “Like what?” She asked.

“Mostly just a first edition of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer…” He said, his eyes gleaming. Chloe’s mouth fell open.

“Nu uh…” She said in disbelief. Doug nodded. “No freaking way, I can’t even begin to imagine how expensive that would be.” She said. Doug laughed.

“About as much as a small house or a very expensive car.” He said. Chloe couldn’t help shaking her head. “What can I say? I like my books. Some guys like cars, some guys like women, I happen to like books.” He said. Chloe glanced at him with one eyebrow raised.

“So you’re telling me you don’t like women?” She asked jokingly. As soon as she’d said it however, she felt as though she shouldn’t have. Thankfully Doug saw the lighter side and laughed.

“No, I definitely still like women. I just meant that…”

“I know, I was just teasing.” Chloe said, turning her back and doing another lap around the new library extension.

  Chapter 4

The grandfather clock by the library door chimed nine o’clock. The noise made Chloe jump.

“I don’t remember that being in here!” She said. Doug chuckled.

“No, it used to be in the dining room until Linda decided she wanted to redecorate. Although redecorating pretty much meant moving all of my stuff out of the common rooms.” He said. Chloe didn’t know what to say and instead of responding she turned her attention to the shelf of books just above her.

“Oh! Alice in Wonderland!” Standing on her tiptoes, Chloe reached up for the book. She stretched her fingers as far as she could, but the book was still out of reach.

“Let me help…” Doug’s voice came next to her ear as he stood behind her and reached up. His fingers grasped the spine of the book. As he took it from the shelf, he brought it down in front of Chloe. “Here.”

Chloe could feel the warmth of Doug’s body behind her. She leaned back against him. She wasn’t sure what had made her do it, but when she did he wrapped his arms around her. He held the book in front of her lower stomach. Chloe took it from his hands and gently, she placed it on top of the books on the shelf in front of her.

His hands now empty, Doug wrapped himself around Chloe’s body. Her slender frame fit so perfectly between his arms. Slowly he allowed his hands to flatten against her soft stomach.

The warmth of his touch made her heart skip a beat. Closing her eyes, she tried to fight back the thought that this was her best friend’s dad. Her best friend’s MARRIED dad. She could feel his warm breath on her ear as he breathed shuddering breaths of desire.

As seconds ticked by, Chloe felt his hands slowly sliding upward until each of them was cupping one of her perky breasts. She leaned her head back against his chest, her mouth open and hungry. Doug leaned down, pressing his lips against the side of her neck.

“Ahhh…” Chloe whispered. As she did, Doug dropped his hands and spun her around to face him. Opening her big blue eyes, Chloe looked up at him. He smiled down warmly before lifting the bottom of her shirt. Chloe’s whole body was shaking in a mix of anticipation and fear of being caught. She knew that she shouldn’t be doing this, but there was something so warm, so comfortable about Doug. He dropped her shirt on the floor and looked down at her perky breasts in her lace bra. She could see the desire in his eyes. Without a word he reached down and unbuttoned her khaki’s as well. Chloe’s heart was thundering now as she watched him peeling down her pants. When he got them to her ankles, he waited patiently for her to step out of them. Once she did, he pressed his lips against the front of her panties and then inhaled deeply.

Watching Doug smelling her through her panties made her hornier. He looked up at her as he knelt at her feet and when she smiled, he hooked his fingers under the side of her panties. Slowly he slid them aside. When his eyes came to rest on her smooth shaved pussy he let out a gasp.

“Mmm…” Chloe hummed as he leaned forward and pressed his lips against her naked mound. He looked up at her again, his brown eyes asking her permission for every move he made. Chloe nodded silently.

Bringing his other hand up, Doug held Chloe’s pussy lips apart and slid his tongue over her sweet wet pink. Chloe could already feel her legs beginning to buckle. Doug smiled against her as his tongue lapped at her small pink nub. Chloe reached down, her fingers running through his silver hair.

“Ohhhh!” She moaned as he teased small circles around her excitement. Doug reached underneath and pressed the tips of two fingers against her wet slit. “Uhmmm!” Chloe moaned louder as he slipped them inside her, moving little by little until his fingers were sunk deep inside her. Throwing back her head, Chloe began to feel the dizziness of holding her breath take over. Doug pulled his fingers from inside her before sinking them back in again, all the while his tongue teasing her clitoris.

Chloe could feel the whole world beginning to spin above her as Doug stroked inside her with his fingers. Gently he pulled his fingers towards her belly as he teased her g-spot. Never had Chloe felt anything so intense and as things spun faster, she knew that she wasn’t going to make it much longer. Reaching forward she grasped the bookshelf, trying to steady herself as she quickly approached orgasm.

“Mmm!” Doug hummed, slipping her clitoris between his lips and stroking her faster with his fingers. As he sucked her gently, Chloe felt her whole body beginning to give in. Her legs locked and her breathing grew louder. Doug stroked faster and faster until Chloe took a sharp deep breath and rode her peak.

“Oooohhh yesssss!” She hissed, her pussy tightening around Doug’s thick fingers. “Mmmm, make me cum!” She said. Doug let her clitoris slip from his lips and gently lapped it as his fingers worked her until he felt her body shudder. “Ahhhh!” She cried as her body stiffened. Doug looked up, watching her face contort in pleasure. He smiled against her smooth skin. Within seconds, Chloe’s body began to relax. The rhythmic contractions of her pussy suckled at Doug’s fingers and he stroked his tongue over her one last time. “Hmmm…” Chloe hummed as Doug slid his fingers from inside her and slipped them in his mouth.

“You taste delicious.” He said after sliding them from between his lips. Chloe turned, leaning her back against the bookshelf as her panties slid back in to place. Her breathing was still heavy and the room smelled like pussy.

  Chapter 5

“Hey!” Dana’s voice came down the phone and instantly it made Chloe feel guilty. As guilty as she had felt when she slipped out of Doug’s office when he excused himself to the bathroom.

  “Hey.” Chloe said.

“Everything okay? You sound kind of weird?” Dana asked. Chloe rolled her eyes, if only she could tell Dana what was going on.

“Yeah, just stressed out. Exams and stuff, you know?” Chloe lied.

  “Urgh that sucks.”

“I’ll be fine, you know me. I know my stuff but I never test well.” Chloe said.

“Yeah, you’ll do great.” Dana paused. “So, did you get a chance to talk to my dad?” She asked. Chloe felt her stomach tighten.

“Yeah, I went over there yesterday.” Chloe didn’t offer any more information.

  “And?” Dana probed.

“Well, he’s paying me way to
o much but…oh, by the way, thanks for telling him about the strip club thing! I was mortified!” Chloe said. Dana giggled.

“I’m sorry, I realized as soon as I’d said it that I shouldn’t have, but it just sort of popped out.” Things were forever just ‘popping out’ of Dana’s mouth, yet somehow she always got away with it.

“Yeah, yeah. Well now your dad is paying me way too much to babysit your brother and sister because he thinks I’ll be a stripper if he doesn’t.” Chloe said.

“Hey, well that’s good right? More money at least!” Dana said with a giggle.

“Well next time I’ll be sure to tell you not to share the embarrassing details.” Chloe said.

“Sorry, sorry. If it’s any consolation he probably won’t tell my mom, she doesn’t approve of strip clubs.” Dana said. Chloe already knew that Doug wouldn’t be telling Linda about the strip club story, he had much bigger stories to hide; it would be the furthest thing from his mind. “Speaking of which, did you see my mom when you were over there?” Dana asked. Chloe felt a sense of dread creeping over her.

“Umm no, your dad said she was trying to get the kids to calm down.” Chloe said.

  “Oh, okay.”

  “Why?” Chloe ventured to ask.

“Nothing really…I just get a feeling that something is going on. She called me the other day and got really upset about some really stupid comment I made. You know her, she never gets upset.” Dana said. Chloe couldn’t think of an excuse for Linda’s behavior.

“Hmm, that is weird. Maybe she was having a bad day?” Chloe said.

“Maybe it’s DUN DUNNNNN the menopause.” Dana burst in to laughter and Chloe couldn’t help but join in briefly. The way Dana added the word ‘the’ in front of random words always made Chloe laugh.

  “Maybe. Who knows?”

“So when do you start work?” Dana asked.

“You know he didn’t actually say?” Chloe neglected to mention that the reason that he hadn’t said was because she had snuck out without saying goodbye.

“Weird, you should call him. Maybe he forgot?”

“Yeah, I’ll call him after I finish studying tonight.” Chloe had no intention of calling him. She couldn’t even know where to begin a conversation with him.

“Cool. Oh well, I just wanted to check and see how everything went.” Dana said. “I’ll talk to you later, ok? And good luck on your test!”

“Thanks. I’ll talk to you later.”

After hanging up the phone, Chloe stretched out on her bed and stared up at the pockmarked ceiling tiles. She wondered if she even still had a job after what had happened in Doug’s library. Then again, she wondered if she still wanted a job there. It had been amazing, she had to admit that Doug had talent. The problem was however, that he was her best friends married dad and Chloe wasn’t sure that she’d ever be able to look him in the eye again.

It was eleven o’clock when Chloe’s cell phone rang. She must have fallen asleep. Fumbling through the dark she grabbed it off the nightstand and before thinking she answered it.

“Hello?” Her voice was croaky. She cleared her throat. “Hello?” She said again.

“Hey…” It was Doug. “It’s Doug…Mr. Hammond.” He said. He sounded just as unsure of himself as Chloe felt.

  “Oh…hey…” She said.

“I…umm…I wanted to call and see if everything was okay? I know we left things a little…well…” He paused as he tried to make some sense out of the words coming out of his mouth. “What I mean is that after what happened you left without saying anything. I wanted to make sure that you were okay?”

“Yes I’m okay.” Chloe said. There was a strained silence for a few minutes before she started talking again. “I’m just kind of confused?” She said.

“Yeah…” Doug said. “I didn’t mean for that to happen.” He said. “I don’t regret it, but I just want you to know that it wasn’t my intention when I asked you to come over.” He went silent.

“Oh…I didn’t think you did. It’s just…I grew up around you, you’re my best friend’s dad. And you’re married.” Chloe said, glad that her roommate wasn’t home.

“Yeah, I know.” He said. “I’m sorry. It was irresponsible of me to let things go that far.” He added. Chloe sighed.

“Don’t apologize. It was…nice.” She cringed at her word choice.

“Nice?” Doug chuckled at the other end of the phone. “I’ve never had it called that before.” He said. Chloe managed a laugh.

“Sorry, I’m not so good with words when things like this happen.”

“Oh? You’ve had things like this happen before?” Doug asked. Chloe laughed again.

“No, that’s not what I meant, I meant when things get awkward.” There was silence. “Oh God, I’m making things even worse aren’t I?” She said. Doug let out a burst of roaring laughter.

“No, no you’re not.” Chloe lay back on her pillow.

“It was nice though.” She said.

  “Yeah, it was.” said Doug.

  Chapter 6

Chloe walked up the basement stairs leaving Jack and Lola in the gaming room. Unlike most gaming rooms, the Hammond gaming room was filled with every video game console that could be bought. Jack and Lola knew their way around every game they owned, but even replaying them would keep them busy for hours. Heading in to the kitchen, Chloe went in search of something to eat. She was absolutely starving after skipping dinner to make it back to the dorm in time for the car picking her up.

“Hello Miss Chloe!” Maria shouted gleefully when she saw Chloe enter the kitchen. She ran over and gave Chloe a hug. “I no see you in a long time!” She said. Chloe smiled.

“Yeah, I’ve been kind of busy with school.” Chloe said.

“Ohhh, you be finish soon, yes?” Maria asked. Chloe nodded.

“Just a few more months!” She said. Marie smiled proudly.

“You always a smart girl. I tell my Gina she could learn thing from you and Miss Dana.” Maria said, referencing her eighteen year old daughter who had always chosen to do things the rebellious way.

“Aww, Maria you are so sweet.” Chloe said with a smile.

  “You hungry?” Maria asked.

“Yes, ma’am. I could eat a horse!” Chloe said. Maria shook her head.

“No horse, but you sit, I fix you something.” Maria said.

“No, no it’s fine! I can grab something!” Chloe went to open the fridge and Maria grabbed the door handle.

“No, is my happiness to be doing for you.” She said with a broad smile. Chloe knew better than to argue with Maria and instead she sat down at the marble kitchen island. “You like chicken?” Maria asked.

  “Yes ma’am.” Chloe answered.

It was about twenty minutes later that Chloe was sitting down to a chicken dinner at the kitchen island. She had definitely missed food like this while she had been at school. As she ate, Maria sat across from her, drilling her about college life. She had never been fortunate enough to go to college herself. Chloe tried to keep this in mind as she answered every one of Maria’s questions. She was just about to answer Maria’s question about what it was like to live in a dorm room, when the kitchen door flew open. Standing in the doorway was Linda. Maria jumped off the stool quickly and nodded in observance of the lady of the house.

“Mrs. Hammond. I can get something for you?” Maria asked. Linda’s body swayed and she gripped at the doorframe to steady herself.

“No, Maria, thank you very much…oh Chloe look at you! I haven’t seen you in a zillion years!” Linda slurred her words together and Maria cast an apologetic glance at Chloe.

“It has been a while.” Chloe said with a smile.

“I was just looking for Doug, I can’t seem to find him…” Linda said as she gave up trying to stand up and leaned to one side.

“Mrs. Hammond, he go out for work. You remember, he tell you before?” Maria prompted. Linda looked puzzled as she tried to remember the events of earlier in th
e day. Eventually she shook her head, her lips pressed together and her eyebrows raised high.

“Nope.” Stumbling over to one of the kitchen cabinets, Linda pulled out a glass and set it clumsily on the counter top. “Wine please Maria!”

“Yes, Mrs. Hammond.” Maria was about to ask what kind of wine when Chloe jumped in.

“Mrs. Hammond, why don’t you go and lie down? I will bring you a glass of wine up. The kids are playing games downstairs so I have a little time on my hands!” Chloe said. Linda nodded her head exaggeratedly.

“That sounds perfect!” She said, emphasizing the word ‘perfect.’ Turning on her heels she pushed through the swinging kitchen door and disappeared. Maria looked at Chloe wide eyed.

“It’s okay, Maria. She’ll pass out before I even go up there so there’s no point pouring a glass.” Chloe said. Maria looked at Chloe guiltily.

“I’m so sorry for Mrs. Hammond. She is having bad time.” Maria said, choosing her words carefully so as not to give too much away. Chloe nodded.

“I know.” Maria looked a little relieved at Chloe’s admission.

“She is drunk like tonight every night for so long.” Maria blurted out. Chloe sighed heavily. Suddenly she realized that Doug had needed her companionship much more than she had realized.

“Hopefully she will get better soon.” Chloe said, more because it was all that she could think of to say than it being the honest truth. From the disheveled state of Linda, she had been drinking like a fish for a long while. Chloe could only guess that that was why the Hammond’s were separating. She was a hundred percent sure that was why she had been so strange with Dana on the phone. Dana…Chloe had forgotten all about Dana in all of this. Not only was she going to be losing yet another mother but God forbid she find out that her best friend had slept with her father.

“Yes. I pray.” Maria said, breaking Chloe’s train of thought. “I go check Mrs. Hammond.” Maria said, shuffling towards the back stairwell. Chloe didn’t offer to go for her. The thought of being alone with Linda made her nervous, especially when she was as drunk as she was tonight.
